Our Curriculum

Math
At Potter and Clay Academy, our preschool through kindergarten math curriculum is meticulously crafted to go beyond the basics and foster exceptional mathematical understanding from an early age. Our program begins with fundamental skills, including number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, counting, and basic operations such as addition and subtraction. However, we extend these foundations into more sophisticated problem-solving and critical thinking challenges that stimulate and expand young minds.
Each lesson is designed not just to teach but to engage, featuring interactive teaching videos and hands-on activities that are both playful and intellectually stimulating. Our innovative approach incorporates elements of logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and early geometry, which are crucial for developing a deep and broad mathematical foundation.
We are committed to preparing our students for a future of academic excellence. By integrating advanced concepts in a child-friendly format, we ensure our students not only meet but exceed the skills needed at this critical stage of educational development. Our curriculum is tailored to ignite curiosity, foster creativity, and build confidence in young learners, setting the stage for lifelong success in mathematics and beyond.

Science/STEM
Children possess an innate curiosity, making them natural explorers eager to uncover the mysteries of the world around them. Our curriculum taps into this inherent curiosity through immersive lessons in life, physical, and earth sciences. Each session is packed with exciting science experiments, engaging teaching videos, and hands-on activities designed to ignite a passion for discovery.
In our S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) class, students are encouraged to think outside the box, fostering creativity and honing problem-solving skills essential for their future. By delving into the realms of science and technology, students are not only preparing for the jobs of tomorrow but also developing a foundation of knowledge and skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

Physical Development
Movement is integral to the learning process as it engages multiple senses and stimulates cognitive functions. Incorporating activities that involve physical movement not only enhances concentration and focus but also promotes better retention of information. By integrating music and movement into lessons, students are encouraged to actively participate, leading to a more dynamic and immersive learning experience. Furthermore, outdoor and indoor activities provide opportunities for students to apply learned concepts in real-life contexts, fostering a deeper understanding of subject matter. Overall, incorporating movement into homeschool lesson plans not only benefits physical health but also enhances academic performance and overall well-being.

Life Skills
Life skills are an essential component of a well-rounded education, providing students with practical knowledge and tools that transcend academic learning and prepare them for real-world challenges. By incorporating elements such as self-regulation, safety, problem-solving, and self-care into lesson plans, students gain the ability to navigate various social and personal situations effectively. Additionally, involving students in preparing snacks and meals not only teaches them valuable cooking skills but also reinforces concepts like math through measurements, science through ingredient interactions, and health through nutrition awareness. These life skills empower students with confidence and independence, ensuring they develop into competent, capable adults who can contribute positively to society.

Language Arts/Reading
Reading is not just a fundamental skill; it is the cornerstone of lifelong learning and academic success. At Potter and Clay Academy, we understand the profound impact that early reading skills have on a child’s educational journey. Our ELA courses are designed to ensure a solid foundation in essential literacy skills.
We utilize a blend of traditional and innovative teaching methods, including engaging teaching videos that captivate and educate, as well as hands-on activities that reinforce learning in an interactive way.
In addition to these resources, children have access to a comprehensive digital library, allowing them to explore a wide range of books suited to their developing skills and interests. This rich collection encourages regular reading practice, enhances vocabulary, and fosters a love of reading that will benefit all other areas of study.
Our approach is holistic and tailored to nurture early literacy in young learners, equipping them with the skills they need to excel not only in reading but across all academic disciplines

World Discovery
The World Discovery component of our homeschool program adds a rich, global perspective to our curriculum, enabling students to explore the geography, wildlife, and cultures of various countries around the world. Each lesson is crafted to broaden their understanding of international diversity and foster a sense of global citizenship. Students delve into the physical landscapes and ecosystems, discovering unique animal species and environmental features. Moreover, they examine cultural traditions, languages, and historical contexts, which helps them appreciate and respect the differences that make each culture unique. By integrating these global explorations into their learning, students develop a deeper global awareness and empathy, skills that are crucial in our interconnected world.
